The rise of A.I. will more than likely result in massive shifts in the way we work in the future. It's likely we'll work less to produce more. If you don't believe me, think about the following: A.I. is now doing what a programmer achieved in 30 days or longer, in 3 hours. If A.I. frees up lots of time for many (and they don't remain unemployed), chances are workers everywhere may have more free time on their hands. I suspect this could drive the importance of 'home' in a similar way covid impacted humans around the planet.
Covid reminded us all of how important a home was in our quality of life. The more time spent at home the more we realized what we loved and what was missing resulting in massive shifts in the way people lived, and where they lived. It accelerated moves, improvements, renovations, additions, and also a remarkable awareness that design matters, that a beautifully designed home that functions well can improve quality of life.
A.I. and robotics may indeed save us much more time spent on menial tasks the way Amazon saves us millions of trips to retail stores daily via tech-enabled delivery of goods (about 50% of Amazon 'workers' are already robots) Freeing up time to be healthier, more connected, happier, etc could be good. Are your clients aware that these changes are not a matter of "if", but rather 'when'? Naturally, the very wealthiest amongst us, especially those invested in the companies that will drive these big changes, will seek much, much more from their homes, and the supply of those in the most desired locations will not meet the demand. We have seen what that produces in recent years.
Of course, there will be many unknowns and challenges too. Will corporations seek to reduce labor to fuel profits and will those who lose their jobs find alternative employment? Often these shifts can take time and few are capable of buying a home without an income/job. Who will pay for those unemployed? Will extreme wealth disparity grow even more and fuel social unrest thereby making home security a priority? Seeing these massive societal shifts before they happen presents opportunity.
