Recalibration Nation

The entire world seems to be in recalibration mode, the word that seemed to be repeated multiple times in the weeks since the FED dropped their rate. It seems lots more than interest rates are recalibrating: I see it everywhere! Here are some examples:

1.  Working from home versus working from the office.

2.  Pricing of homes in areas that saw massive price escalation.

3.  Days on market in areas where COVID-fueled demand resulted in instant sales. Now a more 'normal' timing is emerging.

4.  Inventory in some areas is growing, and in some areas supply is outstripping demand.

5.  Retail. In parts where retailers raised prices well in excess of inflationary pressures, prices are being reduced to more rational levels as consumers push back and simply refuse to buy, or seek out alternatives.

6.  Equities:  Some overvalued equities and investments.

7.  Commercial Real Estate. As interest rates come down, it is easier now to value some commercial real estate entities.

8.  Social Media use and engagement: some people are exiting social media use or cutting back as they recognize symptoms of addiction.

9.  Trust. People around the globe are beginning to question media claims and have started to evaluate the difference between news and opinion.

10. Incomes. After an inflation surge, incomes are now catching up.

11. Re-financing. The most obvious form of re-calibration whereby those who bought homes with higher rates can now refinance.

12. Debt awareness. The decades of extreme government spending and inefficiencies are becoming more mainstream chatter as the cost of debt becomes more noticeable in a higher interest rates environment.

13. Health. The massive adoption of weight-loss drugs like Ozempic has placed a recalibration on how we live, what we eat, and overall health. A.I. may revolutionize our health and wellbeing more than anything else.

14. Retirement Savings. This has come more into focus than ever before. People are actually speaking about this subject, recognizing the massive weight of the majority of citizens with inadequate savings, and the inadequacy of social security funding.

Recalibration is defined as a change in the way you think or do something, a very healthy exercise in the only certainty we have in life: change.
