Over a third of Congress

Over a third of Congress — 172 representatives and 30 senators, evenly divided between Republicans and Democrats — have voiced public support for the Affordable Housing Credit Improvement Act (AHCIA). That’s likely the strongest show of bipartisan support for any tax bill currently before Congress.

The act is designed to strengthen the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC), a key tool for building affordable housing. Since being enacted in 1996, LIHTC has financed the development of 3.7 million affordable rental homes, benefitting an estimated 8 million low-income households. The housing affordability crisis is no longer a coastal problem. (Bloomberg)
