I'm hoping to counter so many of the false and misleading perceptions, narratives and 'alternative facts' we are subjected to on a daily basis. Not only will I address the falsehoods, but I will also attempt to elevate the consumer's deeper understanding of all issues related and semi-related to real estate. I'm hoping some of these may be of value to you to share with your sphere too.
My rant is all about the UNreality of some so-called Reality TV shows where many of the players have done the entire profession a huge dis-service by making what we do look frivolous, easy and over-paid. Worse, the one aspect most overlooked in my opinion, is how some of these shows have made female agents look ridiculous, absurd, insulting. They often portray female agents being obsessed with things like heel height and eyelash length, when we all know the vast majority of female agents are hard-working, thorough professionals who take their work very seriously.
Residential real estate advisory and brokerage may be the one profession that for decades has allowed females to be on an equal playing field earnings-wise. Now some of these shows are making a fool of women (yes, they don't make some of the guys look that great either) and don't for one moment think these shows don't impact the impression of our profession to consumers and jurors! My blurb suggests all shows should post a disclaimer clearly identifying them as entertainment, not fact.
