Some people suffer from addictive traits, whereby they can never get enough of something, even if it causes harm to themselves and others.
Some of the most painful moments in life are when you give lots to someone else: time, effort, attention, sympathy, support, etc. But then, like all addictions, for some, it's just never enough. We've heard too many stories of people dealing with troubled kids, parents, relatives, friends, colleagues, etc, and no matter how hard they tried, no matter how much they said or gave, it simply was never enough. The most painful part is deciding to let go, to 'free' that person so that they are left to fend for themselves, to fully take on accountability for their actions and choices. We are all equipped differently to handle these things. Some are stronger, more talented, and physically fitter. Some individuals are weaker and less equipped to handle life and business's many challenges. That does not make a person weak, it simply exposes A weakness. We all have weaknesses. Some persist, and others are simply moments.
The reality is that it's super-easy for no-one. Those who claim so are often either blind to some of their experiences or choose not to share them. Too often, some keep those challenges under cover, hidden from the world. It's impossible to hide these issues from yourself. Life is a continuous, never-ending series of lessons, best learned from real, honest awareness and self-reflection.
The Holiday Season can often trigger past issues to resurface from a dark place. So for anyone who is experiencing these moments, know you are not alone. Seek the comfort of family, friends, colleagues, neighbors. Be reminded that these are just moments. They pass. Always. Some issues take more time and work than others. Some simply require learning how to live with them. Observing nature can be a guide, as we enter the very longest, darkest days of winter, starting in a few days there will be more light, the days will get longer, and Spring will emerge. It always does.
