These days the battle between those wishing to continue working exclusively from home and those demanding a return to the office rages. As always, it has to be one extreme or the other when in reality often a hybrid of both can work wonders, especially for me as a real estate broker.
A world of opportunity and learning exists outside of the office confines, yes. But there is an equally valuable amount of connectivity, opportunity and learning within a vibrant office. I try to get to the office every day. Why? Even if I don't have specific meetings or face-to-face conversations, this is how I benefit:
1. I love a bit of separation between my home and work life. When they blur as one, I feel less stimulated, a bit bored.
2. I love listening to the 'sounds' of real estate, the office chatter, the language, the mood. It is extremely insightful.
3. I like the people I work with. Feeling a sense of community outside of your private life adds another, different dimension to your existence.
4. I like practicing human interaction in an office to be better equipped outside of the office.
5. Everything in the office works. Computers, printers, the works. It's an efficient place to get things done, focused.
6. Yes the office has distractions, but not nearly as many as I experience when I work from home.
Being in the office is akin to a trip to the gas station or a charging station, it fuels me with energy.
