Everything Old Is New Again

What appeals to the wealthiest often filters down to the masses sooner or later. In the 80's, Haute Couture design elements were usually seen in significantly less expensive merchandise within 6-12 months afterward. Today, a knock-off of a Roman and Williams lamp usually emerges within 12 months and many of the wealthiest today are seeking out purchasing items that have patina, historic context and authenticity that is tough to impossible to recreate, including homes.

Multiple companies are now taking old Landrover Defenders and other classics and updating them with completely refurbished exteriors, interiors and mechanicals. They sell for hundreds of thousands of dollars and have that 'cool' factor in that the owner's neighbor's 2024 Range Rover can be easily purchased anywhere by anyone (with the means) and they are making thousands of them! As wealth grows and spreads the desire for unique and scarcity will always grow too. Items with authentic provenance are impossible to recreate.

More recently I am seeing a growing demand for historic homes that have been updated. The combination of a home that functions beautifully in today's world, meeting today's demands, with authentic details and historic context impossible to replicate, stands out again in a sea of sameness. Real estate that has collector qualities is almost always good real estate and you can find it at all price points!
