In 2006 (almost 20 years ago) the term "En Suite Sky Garage" was coined as a marketing name applied to a garage concept that allowed owners of a new 16-unit Manhattan condo building being marketed that allowed owners to drive their car into an elevator that whisked them up (in their car) to the floor of their apartment and park alongside their home, "en suite".
This concept, of course, exists in suburban homes throughout the world, but it was a FIRST for New York City, which says something about the concept of en suite that has grown tremendously over the past decade or two, especially amongst owners of apartments and homes that now require every bedroom to have an en suite bathroom. The days of shared bathrooms are waning...fast!
A bathroom is one of the most used home amenities and anyone building or developing homes places a big focus on this room. Delivering as many en suite bathrooms elevates the price of most homes. Now, lots of other things are becoming en suite (defined literally as “in sequence” or “in harmony”) including home & building gyms, pools, dining facilities, parking, etc.
En Suite speaks to luxury and convenience as well as time savings, and yes, time is the last luxury! An owner of one of those "En Suite Garages" told me she saved around an hour a day by not having to take the elevator down to the street, walk to her garage, wait for her car 3-4 times per day.....
